MARION, Ohio - Earl E. Smith Sr., age 88, of Marion, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Marion Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 17, 1923, in East Liverpool to the late Ralph E. and Elsie M. (Deakin) Smith.
On Oct. 17, 1943, in Chester, he married Hilda L. (Brown) Smith, she preceded him in death on June 28, 2011.
Earl was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII, he was a resident of Marion for the eighteen years where he was a member of Central Christian Church and the Pleasant Senior Citizens. He was employed at Penn Power in Shipping Port, Pa., as an instrument repair technician, where he retired in 1987.
He is survived by his son, Earl E. (Diana) Smith Jr. of Alvin, Texas; son-in-law, Sam Sandefur of Marion; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Gene Smith of Chester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Kathy Sandefur; two brothers, Ralph and Dennis Smith; and two sisters, Odessa Smith and Vioma Stevens.
Funeral services for Earl will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Merlyn Winters officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery with the Marion County Veterans Council conducting a military service. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at the funeral home.
