Pollock named 1st team all-district

RICHMOND - The postseason awards are starting to be handed out in all of the fall sports.

Volleyball players from Jefferson County were well represented on the District 5 teams.

Locally, Edison placed a pair of players on the all-district team, while Indian Creek, Big Red, Buckeye Local, Catholic Central and Toronto all also had players receive all-district recognition.

Edison, Big Red, Indian Creek and Buckeye Local are all in Division II. Catholic Central is in Division III. Toronto is in Division IV.

For the Wildcats, senior outside hitter Katelyn Pollock was named to the first team, and senior libero Kylie Smith was named honorable mention.

Five girls received all-district honors for the Redskins. Two players from Indian Creek were named to the first team, and two were named to the second team. The Redskins also had one player named honorable mention.

Middle hitter Bre Berryman and setter Jessica Furda were both named to the first team. Whitney Martin and Brey Mays were both named to the second team. Ali Collaros was named honorable mention.

Big Red placed two girls on the all-district team. Abby Taylor was named to the second team, and Taylor Young was named honorable mention.

For the Panthers, Kayla Fillipovich was named honorable mention.

New Philadelphia's Laini Leindecker was named player of the year, and Dover's Beth Matthews was named coach of the year in Division II.

The Crusaders had two players receive all-district recognition. Maddy Gulan was named to the second team, and Robyn Runkel was named honorable mention.

Tusky Valley's Katlyn Dunlap was named player of the year, and Tusky Valley's Denell Gordon was named coach of the year in Division III.

Toronto's Cari Horne was the lone Red Knight to be named all-district. Horne was named honorable mention.

Tusky Central Catholic's Megan Lawless was named player of the year, and Tusky Central Catholic's Linda Williams was named coach of the year in Division IV.

Mays will be playing for the East team during the all-star match at 6 p.m. Sunday at Tusky Central Catholic High School.
