Do I really want to write this letter? That is what I ask myself, because it's my first letter to the editor, and I am doing so with the hope that other veterans can benefit from it.
In January of 2009, after a biopsy at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and was going to be treated with 40 radiation sessions. They told me that I would have to make five trips a week to Cleveland for eight weeks to complete my treatments a two-hour trip, each way, for a 15 minute appointment.
I asked them if it could be outsourced to East Liverpool, since I was self-employed and would not be able to run my business being away all day. Their answer was a flat "no."
Another veteran told me that he had a problem solved by Charlie Wilson's office. So, I called his office and talked to John Payne. Charlie and John got it resolved, and I received my treatments locally.
During the sessions they kept in touch to monitor my progress and asked if there was any other veterans they could help. No mention of party, race, religion, etc. They were happy to help anyone.
Remember, if you can read this, thank a teacher, but the fact you are still reading in English, thank a veteran.
