Woman's Club of New Cumberland

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Woman's Club of New Cumberland, a General Federation of Woman's Clubs of West Virginia member, met at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Swaney Memorial Library of New Cumberland. Dorothy Hawkes, President, presided at the meeting.

Debbie Peterson conducted the inspiration while Dorothy Hawkes led members in the Pledge of Allegiance and the reciting of "A Collect for Club Women."

A discussion was transacted concerning the Oct. 13, GFWC-WV Northern District Convention to be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Moundsville. The host club will be The Woman's Club of McMechen. Also, it was acknowledged that the Hancock County Arts Council Holiday Tours will be Nov. 17. The former Hon home of New Cumberland will be included in the tour. There will be a reception at the Swaney memorial Library of New Cumberland hosted by our club members.

Correspondences were read by Patty Fisher, Secretary, with discussion and actions taken. Shirley Wildman noted sending birthday, get-well and sympathy cards.

Sally Greathouse, 2nd Vice President and Ways and Means Chairman, gave the final total from the crepe sale at the New Cumberland River Fest. Rain on Sunday did not dampen spirits. Sally explained the flower bulb sale from the Flower Power Fundraiser and a canvass of members was conducted for interest in selling Uncle Al's Candy and Nuts.

Betsy Wells and Dorothy Hawkes presented the evening's program, ICE Your Phone. This program encourages mobile phone users to enter emergency contact information into their mobile phone under the heading ICE, an acronym for In Case of Emergency. ICE allows paramedics or emergency responders to contact a designated relative or next of kin in an emergency situation in the event the user is incapacitated.

Refreshments were served by Debbie Peterson and Shirley Wildman. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Swaney Memorial Library.
