SALEM George W. Haudenschilt, 87, of Wellsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at 3:45 a.m. at the Essex of Salem.
Born in East Liverpool, June 8, 1925, he was a son of the late Lemoine Haudenschilt and Ruth Creel Haudenschilt Buzzard. A lifetime area resident, he worked for Homer Laughlin China until he retired in 1987 following over 40 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight and past Faithful Navigator, as well as a past leader of the Carroll Council Squires.
Following high school, he served with the U.S. Army during WWII where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge offensive. He later held membership in the Chester V.F.W.
Survivors include his brother, Glenn Buzzard, and his wife Nedra, of Hubbard; along with his best friends, Jim Derosky of Wellsville and Frank Derosky of Lehigh Acres, Florida. There are also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eileen Reed and Anna L. McDowell; two brothers, Arnett Buzzard and Erett Buzzard Jr.; and his stepfather, Erett Buzzard Sr.
Friends may visit Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church.
Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
