WELLSVILLE - Donald E. Merritt, of Hammond School Road, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, 2012, at home. He was 63.
Born in Salem, W.Va., Oct. 3, 1948, he was a son of Mary B. Cornell Merritt of Calcutta and the late Alaska W. Merritt. A resident of this area most of his life, he worked at Columbiana Pump, Majestic Manufacturing, Mountaineer Resort, Prudential Life Insurance Company, Sevy's Pharmacy and was a salesman for Grand Ford at one time.
He graduated in the top ten of the Beaver Local High School Class of 1966. An avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams, he enjoyed golfing and bowling.
His wife, Rebecca "Becky" Hayden-Merritt, whom he married Sept. 4, 1997, survives at home. There is a sister, Robin Miller, and her husband Harold, of Wellsville; as well as three brothers, Ronald Merritt, and his wife Candy, of Kingsland, Ga., Richard Merritt, and his wife Ellen, of Calcutta, and Robert Merritt, and his wife Hope, of East Liverpool.
There are many nieces and nephews and cousins also surviving. He will also be sadly missed by his beloved pets Shadow, Puffy and Lucy. His dogs, Buddy and Abby, preceded him in death.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a niece, Hope Michell Miller.
