Thomas Tyler Archer, 73

EAST LIVERPOOL - Thomas Tyler Archer, of East Liverpool and Bonita Springs, Fla., died unexpectedly at home Friday morning, Sept. 21, 2012. He was 73.

Born July 4, 1939, a son of the late Duane F. and Margaret C. "Babe" Altier Archer, he was a lifelong area resident and attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. A 1957 graduate of East Liverpool High School, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Youngstown State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He served as president of the former Potters Savings and Loan in East Liverpool, where he also was on the board of directors.

He was a member of the board of directors for Tri-State Arts, Inc. (ORAG), from 1998 to 2008 and served as treasurer for 10 years as well as president for several terms. He was recognized as the 2009 Outstanding Citizen for Art Education by the Ohio Art Education Association.

An active member of the community, he also served as president of the Mary Patterson Association and the East Liverpool Area YMCA Board of Directors, a member of the East Liverpool Chapter of the Red Cross Board, served as treasurer of St. Aloysius School and was a fundraising volunteer at East Liverpool City Hospital.

His other memberships included the Ohio Art Education Association, Midland Arts Council of Midland, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club and the East Liverpool Country Club where he served on the club's board.

He is survived at home by his wife, Barrie Smith Archer, whom he married Sept. 2, 1995.

Also surviving is a son, Patrick Archer of Madison, Wis.; two daughters, Tristam Griffith and Alexis Dowding and her husband, Jason Thompson; and a granddaughter Maya Griffith, all of Columbus.

He will also be remembered by his a sister, Pam Archer, of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Tim Archer, and his wife, Rose, of Taylorsville, N.C.; along with two nieces, Alexis Shanks and her husband, Benjamin and their son Oliver, and Elizabeth Jarman and her daughter Olivia; as well as a cousin, Kim Kriner and his wife Toni, and their daughters Alicia and Leanna.

He also leaves behind his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wink and Dorothea Smith and their children, Newell, Leah and Patricia.

Friends may visit Sunday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5-8 p.m. The Rev. Mary Vidmar of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church is to conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Entombment is to be in Riverview Cemetery.
