CALCUTTA - A Hookstown, Pa., man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital over the weekend with wounds suffered in an attack on Maple Drive, with his alleged attacker taken into custody.

According to Chief Donald Hyatt, Bradley J. Gibson II, 38, Old Mill Creek Road, Hookstown, suffered multiple slash wounds to his abdomen and upper thigh by a folding knife and screwdriver after being confronted by Chad A. Smith, 38, Sprucevale Road, in the driveway of Cena M. Harris just after 4 a.m. Saturday.

Although the investigation is continuing, Hyatt said preliminary information indicates that Gibson and Harris were returning to her home after a date when they pulled into her driveway and Smith pulled his vehicle in behind them.

Harris and Smith had a relationship at one time, Hyatt said, adding that Harris exited Gibson's vehicle and began speaking to Smith, apparently telling him he needed to leave.

At that point, Smith allegedly began a physical altercation with Harris, and Gibson got out of his vehicle and a fight ensued between the two men, with punches thrown, Hyatt said.

Smith reportedly produced the knife and screwdriver and began stabbing Gibson.

Police were called and Smith was located later that morning and charged wit felonious assault. Gibson's wounds were not life-threatening and he has since been released from UPMC in Pittsburgh.

In East Liverpool Municipal Court Monday, Smith appeared for arraignment, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 13 and cash/surety bond set at $20,000 by Judge Melissa Byers Emmerling. He was ordered to have no contact with Gibson.
