CHESTER-Police have identified the victim of a fatal vehicle accident in Hancock County early Sunday morning as Preston Andrews, 23, of Chester.
Andrews was a passenger in a Ford Ranger pickup truck shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday when the driver, Brent Higgins, 22, of Chester, lost control and crashed, Hancock County Sheriff Mike White said.
Andrews was trapped in the front passenger side, while two other passengers, Gary Gamble, 22, of Chester, and Nicholas McAvoy, 23, of New Cumberland, were ejected, White said. Gamble and McAvoy were riding in the bed of the pickup truck.
The accident happened on Middle Run Road near the intersection of County Road 208. White said speed was a factor and the driver said he lost control when he swerved to avoid striking a deer.
The accident remains under investigation. White said the sheriff's department is awaiting the results of a routine toxicology test to see if drugs or alcohol were factors.
Andrews graduated from Oak Glen High School in 2007 and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. He most recently worked for Waste Management Corp.
