Common Pleas for 7-29

Alex J. Clunen was sentenced in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court last Friday to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty in December to endangering children. Clunen, 24, Cherry Street, Salem, on Sept. 19, 2010 administered excessive corporal punishment to a 2-year-old child, causing brusing to her right and left forehead, face, right eye and bottom.

Raymond G. Sugar, 28, North Ellsworth Avenue, Salem, was sentenced to six months in prison on Monday after he pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. According to court documents, Sugar had a debit card belonging to Kerry Hillman in his possession on Sept. 11 and Sept 12, 2011. Charges of misuse of a credit card and three counts of theft were dismissed.

Jonathan M. Weis, 23, Hubbard, was sentenced to five years probation last Friday after pleading guilty to failure to verify his change of address after moving from his North Ellworth Avenue, Salem home between January 2011 and May 2011 without notifying authorities. Weis was previously adjudicated as a delinquent child for gross sexual imposition in 2004.

Jessie L. Barton, 23, was dishonorably discharged from his treatment program last Friday and sentenced to five years probation, starting in November 2009. Additionally he was sentenced to an indefinite term at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center.

According to court documents, Barton, Lincoln Street, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering in 2009 for breaking a lock and going into a shed belonging to Nancy Hormel, Water Street, Saleinville with the intention of theft.

Michael D. Thrasher, 19, had his treatment plan dishonorably terminated last Friday, and he was placed on a five year probation with intensive supervision the first six month. Court documents state Thrasher, 18th Street Heights, Wellsville, pleaded guilty in January to burglary for breaking into the home of Dwayne Myers and taking a shotgun.
