NEW CUMBERLAND-James W. Swain, 87, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Memorial Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Born November 12, 1924 Jim was a lifelong resident of New Cumberland, W.Va.

Mr. Swain worked at Weirton Steel Corporation where he retired after 40 years of service. Jim was a veteran of WWII receiving 5 battle stars serving with the First Army V- Corp landing on Normandy Beach, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar, and the Shrine, as well as a 60 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chester where he served many years as a Trustee.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary Cooper Swain, and a Grandson, Andrew James Swain.
Survivors are his wife of 60 years Orpha J. Temple Swain, son Steven J Swain & wife Laura of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, daughter Nancy Ann Swain Corker & husband Gary of Doswell, Virginia. Five Grandchildren: Nicholas Johnson, Katie Johnson, Amber Swain, Jared Swain, and Chad Swain, two Great Grandchildren: Caiden Carter and Navessa Sando, two brothers Charles & Marion Swain, and two sisters JoAnne Ward and Fannie Ashcraft also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2012 at Arner Funeral Chapel; Chester, West Virginia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 and interment will follow at the New Cumberland Cemetery where Masonic and full Military Honors will be accorded.
