EAST LIVERPOOL - Bonnie Gayle Hoppel, beloved wife of James Henry Hoppel, mother and grandmother, passed away at her residence on Saturday, July 21, 2012, following a lengthy illness. Bonnie resided with her husband in Calcutta since 1987.
She was born in Cleveland on March 16, 1951, a daughter of Jean M. Koglman and the late John W. Koglman.
A 1969 graduate of North Olmsted High School, Bonnie continued her education earning a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Bowling Green State University in 1973 and remained in the community to teach at Bowling Green High School for nine years. Following the pleasure of being a stay at home mother of her two small children, she later became a Health Educator for the Ohio Department of Health and received several awards at the county and state levels for her outstanding achievements. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of Alabama.
Bonnie finished her health career by overseeing monetary health grants for 22 of Ohio's counties.
A devoted follower of Christ, Bonnie was an active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Chippewa, Pa. Even on the most difficult of days, Bonnie's faith in God and positive outlook kept her family in the assured knowledge of her entry into God's presence upon her passing.
In addition to her husband of 36 years, she is survived by four children: Wendy Hoppel of Lakewood, Ohio; James Hoppel Jr., and wife, Jill, of North Olmsted, Ohio; Steven Hoppel and wife, Jennifer "J.J." of Woodland Hills, Calif.; and Kara Wilson and husband, Chris, of Springboro, Ohio. Bonnie also relished being grandmother to Jimmy Hoppel and wife, Andrea, Jordan Hoppel, Grace Hoppel, Caleb Wilson and Charlie Hoppel.
Bonnie is also survived by five siblings: Marshall Koglman and wife, Sue; Phyllis Barrett and husband, Bill; Heidi Miller and husband, Garry; Holly Schaefer and husband, Daniel; and Becky Conron and husband, Mark.
The family will be present to receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home, as well as from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2679 Darlington Road in Chippewa, Pa.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Eric Ash of the church officiating.
Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
