Mary F. Shepherd, 84

CHESTER - Mary F. Shepherd, 84, of Chester, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in Stone Pear Pavilion at Foxcrest.

Born in Mabie, W.Va., on Sept. 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia Guire.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Earl Shepherd, whom she married Sept. 5, 1946.

She is survived by her children, Linda Ludovici, Cindy (Jim) Gadd, Beverly (Chuck) Casto, Frank (Carol) Shepherd; one very special niece Julia (Scott) Russell; and a foster daughter, Trudy Allison Orrick; grandchildren John (Anita) Ludovici, Goldie Ludovici, Jason Gadd, Erin (Matt Moore) Gadd, Jessica Casto, Matt Casto, Brandi (Phillip) Kopas, Bradley and Andrew Shepherd; and great-grandchildren, Rosalind and Morgan Ludovici, and Makenzie, Hunter and Jeremy Kopas, and Roxie Moore; a sister, Kathryn Fleece; a brother-in-law, Howard Shepherd; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Neese, and Emogene (John) Pearman.

Mrs. Shepherd lived most of her life in the Chester area. As a young woman, she worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. during World War II. During her time in Washington D.C. she also worked with wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital, writing and reading letters for them. She retired from Homer Laughlin China in 1992. She was an active lifetime member of the Chester American Legion Auxiliary Unit 121 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 6450, where she served as Treasurer and Chaplin.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a lifetime member of the Ladies Guild. Mrs. Shepherd had also been active with the Rebekah's Lodge and the PTA.

The Rev. Father Eric Antwi will be the Presider for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Elkins, W.Va.

Friends may visit Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 and 5-8 p.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.
