Stella R. Proffitt, 76

WELLSVILLE - Stella Rose Proffitt, 76, of state Route 45, passed away unexpectedly at 11:39 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, in the emergency room at the Salem Community Hospital.

Mrs. Proffitt was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Ripley, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ira and Adeline (Miller) Merrill, and had lived most of her life in the area.

She was a homemaker and had attended the Bethel United Presbyterian Church. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Stella also was an avid Bingo player, and she enjoyed going to garage sales.

She is survived by her husband, Chester A. Proffitt, whom she married Jan. 8, 1953; daughters, Vicki (Randy) Carroll of Wellsville, and Kimberly Lehmenkuler of Salem; sister, Mary (Ralph James) Cochran of East Liverpool; grandchildren, Scott (Angela) Mason of Salem and Kelly (Jim) Lawrence of Chardon; great-grandchildren, Tyler Mason, and Courtney and Leah Lawrence; loving niece, June Bernet and family of Hanoverton; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Proffitt was preceded in death by her brothers, Ira, Jesse, and Floyd Merrill; and sisters, Annabelle Daugherty, Hazel Eisenhower, Dolly Coleman, and Elsie Weimer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Derek Marotta officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.
