ECONOMY BORO, Pa. - Ralph H. Johnson, 90, of Economy Boro, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, in Heritage Valley Health System, Sewickley.
He was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Wellsville, a son of the late Howard and Mary Costello Johnson, he was a locomotive engineer and later worked as a trainer and instructor for Conrail Railroad. Ralph also drove a school bus for the Ambridge Area Schools. He was a member of the Baden United Methodist Church, the Wellsville Masonic Lodge No. 180 and served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Alaska. He was an avid railroad enthusiast and enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Jane (Ewing) Johnson; daughter, Linda (James) Patrician of Chicago, Ill.; a son, Craig H. Johnson of Rochester; grandchildren, James (Tammy) Patrician Jr., John (Kelly) Patrician, Kristine (Rudy) Mazzeo, Brandon (Lauren) Johnson, Garrett (Rachel) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Cole Patrician, Kelcey Jaden Patrician, Gabriella Lynn Mazzeo, Joseph Armando Mazzeo, and Michael James Mazzeo;and a twin brother, Richard C. (Victoria) Johnson of Oceanside, Calif.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Wagner, Katherine Johnson and Jean Barnett; and a brother, Robert E. Johnson.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in the John Syka Funeral Home, Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge where a funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday with his pastor, the Rev. R. Andrew Verner officiating. Private interment will take place on Tuesday in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Wellsville. Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home to provide full military honors.
