Potters finish regular season with win, .500 record

EAST LIVERPOOL - Finishing on a high note.

The East Liverpool baseball team concluded its regular season on Friday with a 4-0 win over visiting East Palestine.

The win moves the POtters to 10-10 on the season.

"It was a very emotional game for the kids," East Liverpool coach Steve Dawson said. "These kids have gone through a lot and were told by a lot of people that they'd be lucky to win a game. To finish .500 is quite an accomplishment."

The Potters opened the scoring with one run in their first at bat. They added two insurance runs in the third and one more in the fourth.

East Liverpool didn't need much offense as three pitchers combined to shut down East Palestine.

Nate Wilkinson got the mound win, tossing four innings on no-hit baseball while walking seven and striking out four.

Tyler Barnhouse (two innings) and Justin Behana (one inning) kept the Bulldogs off the board in relief.

On the offensive side of things, the Potters were led by Brian Beverly who had two doubles, two RBI and a stolen base.

Donnie Gay finished with a double and an RBI, while Tyler Recktenwald also doubled.

Jon Weyand, Mikey Williams and Wilkinson also hit safely for East?Liverpool.

For East Palestine, Chris Raley and Hayden Moore both doubled.

Now the Potters switch their focus to the postseason which is scheduled to start today at 1:30 p.m. at Vaccaro Field in Steubenville against Minerva.

"Now we start a new season,"?Dawson said. "This is what we've been waiting for. We're ready for the challenge. We're going to go down and give it 110 percent and see what happens."
