Potters topple Tigers, 5-2

EAST LIVERPOOL - Brian Beverly pitched seven strong innings, and the East Liverpool baseball team outhit Shadyside en route to a 5-2 victory Wednesday at home.

Beverly recorded the win. He struck out 12, walked three and he allowed two runs on four hits.

Offensively, the Potters pounded out nine hits.

Jon Weyand delivered two singles and two RBI, Nate Wilkinson and Mike Williams each tallied a single and an RBI and Tyler Recktenwald contributed a double. Also, Justin Behanna added two singles.

"I told the kids before the game that tonight starts our new season," East Liverpool head coach Steve Dawson said. "We need to get better for sectionals and what better way than to avenge an earlier loss to Shadyside, and that is what we did tonight.

"Brian Beverly was on his game tonight as he had Shadyside off balance all night. That was the first time in his high school career that he registered 12 strikeouts."

Zack Frizzi took the loss for the Tigers. He struck out none, walked one and he allowed four runs in his two innings of work on the mound. Adam Stypak pitched the next four innings. He struck out four, walked one and allowed one run on three hits.

Offensively, Kody Kubancik contributed a doubled.

East Liverpool plays Friday night at home against East Palestine on the Potters' Senior Night.
