Dear Editor:
Continuing ... to make matters worse, the "DOC" allowed that sex offender to live right behind his victim, when the law states otherwise.
According to the West Virginia Code, Chapter 62, Section 12, "A sex offender may not live or work within one thousand feet of a school or childcare facility or within one thousand feet of the victims residence" when in fact he was only 528 feet away from his victim.
It took me and my fiance to run into him on the street with our two children to know he was living right behind us. We walked our kids down that alley multiple times not knowing he was there. I had to move my family off that street and out of Newell so we could feel safe again in our own home, which is ridiculous because the law state he is not even suppose to be that close.
The defendant was not remorseful. Whatever happened to keeping the public aware and victims safe.
It's a "joke" and those in authority need to be questioned about their actions. So why does the state make the law if they're not going to abide by them? We, the citizens, aren't allowed to break laws ... so why are they?
If anyone else has any concern about this and would like something done, please e-mail me at antonio-ponziani@yahoo.com.
