NEWELL - The man struck while sitting on his motorcycle early Friday morning will not lose one of his legs as was initially speculated.
According to Hancock County Sheriff Mike White, Kenneth Ray McCall of McCall Drive in Newell is doing well this week after being struck by a Tahoe driven by James Michael Edwards, 40, of Bevinsville, Ky.
"As far as we know, they were able to save his leg and he's doing much better," said White.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Department received a call around 5:27 a.m. Friday reporting the accident. McCall was struck by Edwards' gold Tahoe while sitting on his motorcycle waiting for a local diner to open for breakfast. Edwards fled the scene and was soon apprehended by a deputy near the Holiday Inn Express in Newell.
McCall was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious leg injuries.
Edwards was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
