Columbiana County Sheriff Reports 9-3

September 3, 2011
The Review

- While attempting to serve two bench warrants for Christopher L. Miller, Binsley Road, at 1:08 a.m. Friday. Patty Colon, reportedly his girlfriend, denied repeatedly he was there. Deputies found him hiding in the master bedroom in the corner of a closet under a pile of clothes. Miller was taken into custody on the bench warrants and Colon, who later admitted knowing he had been in the room sleeping and was hiding when deputies entered the house, was charged with falsification. Miller broke away from deputies while being led to the vehicle, charging and swearing at the deputy arresting Colon. He also was charged with resisting arrest. He also was later found to have additional warrants from Carroll and Stark counties.

- Jill Leippley, Unity Line Road, East Palestine, reported at 7:49 p.m. Thursday she has been receiving numerous calls from telemarketers and has been told she needs to send money to a certain address or a warrant would be issued for her arrest. Then someone deposited $600 into her account, then withdrew $643. Since then numerous withdrawals have been made against her account, many without the funds to cover them leaving her with $1,000 in fees. She closed her account. The withdrawals were made by American Web Loans.

- Kim Mosser, Chain School Road, East Palestine, reported at 8:08 p.m. Thursday someone broke into a barn belonging to Gary Fedak earlier during the afternoon taking several engines and miscellaneous parts.

- A domestic disturbance was reported on Brookdale Avenue, East Palestine, at 12:43 p.m. Thursday. Marcia Fulton told deputies she had told Duane A. Reed Jr. he could not take her van, but he got into it anyway and would not unlock the back hatch so she could get her belongings from the back. She said she then put her arm in the window to unlock the door and he shut the window on her arm. She then said she jabbed at Reed with a baseball bat so he would put the window down. After she freed her arm and unlocked the door, he came out and called her a derogatory name, so she slapped him in the face. He got back into the van and backed into a tree three or four times. Reed told deputies he came home and Fulton started to fight with him, jabbed at him with a bat several times and punched him in the face so he tried to leave. Both were charged with domestic violence.

- Steve Clark, Bates Road, Minerva, reported at 2:06 p.m. Thursday someone attempted to steal a car part from the salvage yard. After taking the part, the man started to get into his truck. When Clark confronted him and they discussed the price, the man threw the part to the ground and refused to buy it.

- Dave Freeman, Johnson Road, Lisbon, reported at 2:46 p.m. Thursday he parked his vehicle at the pull-off near the intersection of state Route 45 and Old Route 45 between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. When he returned he found someone had tried to cut off his catalytic converter. The exhaust pipe behind the converter had been cut off and someone had cut about two thirds the way through the pipe in front of the converter.

- Nancy Ingledue, Teegarden Road, Salem, reported at 2:03 p.m. Thursday a woman called her Wednesday claiming to be from Rite Aid and needed her Medicare account information for billing reasons. Ingledue realized Thursday Rite Aid already had the information and called the store, who said no one from there had called.

- Arthur Whitehead, Hanoverton, reported at 12:22 p.m. Thursday he has been getting repeated harassing calls from someone who tells him he won $7 million and a Mercedes Benz, but he needs to get a certified check for $399. The man, calling himself John Anderson, also reportedly told Whitehead to make him his favorite food - fried chicken legs and wings, white rice and coffee - because he will be to his home on Thursday to get the certified check. Deputies called the number back and asked who they were speaking to, but the man who answered told them "you have the wrong number" and hung up the phone.
