Common Pleas Reports for 5-16

May 16, 2010
The Review

A Salem-area teenager was granted probation for committing a number of theft and forgery offenses, most involving a relative.

Nathan D. Winn, 19, of Whinnery Road, was found to be drug dependent and sentenced to five years probation/treatment program after pleading guilty to multiple charges of theft, forgery and misuse of a credit card.

Winn stole and forged eight checks from the account of Robyn Winn during April and May 2009 and used her stolen credit card in July 2009. He was also accused of stealing more than $500 in goods from a Wal-Mart store and stealing towing services from Sinsley Towing, with these crimes also occurring about the same time as the others.

As part of his probation/treatment program, Winn was ordered to make restitution in the amount of $1,713 and given mandatory credit for 136 days spent in the county jail.

An East Liverpool man was sent to prison this week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for possessing chemicals used to produce methamphetamines.

Marcus N. Kidder, 32, of East Sixth Street, was sentenced to two years in a state prison, with mandatory credit granted for 124 days served in the county jail, after pleading guilty to the illegal assembly or possession of chemicals used to manufacture drugs.

Kidder was driving through East Liverpool last June when he was stopped by police and found with a bag containing Sudafed, plastic tubing, lithium batteries, drain cleaner, salt and a Mason jar. These are all used in the manufacture of meth.

In other court action:

Joseph J. Hampson, 72, East Pidgeon Road, Salem, was sentenced to five years probation by Judge David Tobin for writing $32,870 in bad checks to C & K Petroleum Products from the account of the Papa Joe's One-Stop convenience store in Hanoverton in April 2009.

As part of his probation, Hampson was ordered to make restitution in the amount of $32,870 to C & K and $1,456 to Consumers Bank.

Sue D. Stuchell, 49, Stanley Court, Beloit, was found to have violated her probation granted her after previously pleading guilty to eight counts of stealing checks. Stuchell's probation was continued but she was sentenced to two weeks in the county jail.
