WEIRTON - Mildred M. Danford, 81, of Weirton, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010, in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born Jan. 13, 1929, in Weirton, she was a daughter of the late Luke and Anna Yakunich. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George R. Danford, on July 17, 2003; brothers Frank and Pete "Jock" Porec; and sisters Kathryn Matask and Mary Ann Bolan.
Mrs. Danford was a homemaker, and a member of the Salvation Army, where she was a member of the Home League. A foundation member and supporter of the Hancock County Animal Shelter, Mildred enjoyed baking, crocheting, working Sudoku puzzles and watching TV especially the Food Network Channel.
Mildred is survived by her son George R. Danford and his wife Ruth Ann of New Manchester,; brothers Louis Yakunich and John Porec, both of Weirton; sister Margaret "Babe" Robinson and her husband Teddy of Colliers, W.Va.; and her beloved cat, sassy.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday. Major Lamar Foreman will officiate. Interment will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, Pa.
