LISBON - Harry A. Grimes, 86, of Steubenville Pike Road, passed away at 5:45 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, en route to the Salem Community Hospital, after taking ill at home.
Mr. Grimes was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Wellsville, the son of Fred and Leona (Minor) Grimes.
He last worked for the Columbiana County Engineers Office in the Highway Maintenance Department, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Grimes served his country during WWII, as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp., where he earned numerous medals, including a Purple Heart.
He attended Lisbon Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Rouse) Chamberlain Grimes; two sons, David Grimes of Carrollton and Jeffery Grimes of Lisbon; two stepdaughters, Mary Lou Lomax of Leetonia and Thelma Jarvis of Austintown; a stepson, Charles Rouse of California; and four grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn (Dotson) Grimes, and stepsons, Ronald Rouse, LeRoy Rouse, Robert Rouse, and Charles Chamberlain.
The funeral service is 1 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2010, at Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Major Tom Hinzman officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lisbon Cemetery.
Visitation is noon Monday until the service at the funeral home.
