LISBON - A Lisbon man accused of cashing checks from his grandmother's account was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to five counts of forgery.

Corey Witherow, 23, of 14979 Steubenville Pike Rd., entered the guilty pleas to the fifth degree felony counts in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court with immediate sentencing requested.

He received nine months for each count, with the terms to be served at the same time. He received credit for 11 days already served in the county jail.

Court documents said he cashed the checks on the account of Rhea Tedrow and Marchelle Witherow in September and October at Farmer Bill's, Salineville Car Station and Huntington Bank.

John Powell Jr., 19, of 1075 Mapletree St., East Liverpool, was sentenced to six months in prison for escape, a fifth-degree felony, and aggravated trespass, a first-degree misdemeanor, with credit for 60 days already served in jail. He was originally charged with escape and burglary, both felonies. Documents said Powell fled from an East Liverpool police officer while handcuffed after being arrested for a misdemeanor theft offense on Oct. 18, 2008 in East Liverpool. On the same day, he trespassed in the Potters Lane, East Liverpool residence of Eugene Smith.
