CHESTER - Billy Gene Griffith died at home Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at 77 years young.
He was born Sept. 4, 1932, in Belington, W.Va., a son of the late Julia Virginia (Perchin) Griffith and Alfred John Griffith.
Billy served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was a retired mechanic for the Hancock County Commissioners Office.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Teter) Griffith; an infant daughter; and a brother, Thomas Joseph Griffith.
Surviving are his daughter, Tonya Lee (Tim) Adkins of Chester; three grandchildren, Joshua Rambo, Tim Adkins, Chrissy (Jon) Kretzer all of Chester; and four great-grandchildren, Tanner Joseph, Tye Rambo, Trey Rambo, Trenton Rambo all of Chester; four brothers, Alfred John (Ida) Griffith of Belington, W.Va., Ronald (Thelma) Griffith of Jamestown, Pa., Jerry (Lilly) Griffith of Melbourne, Fla., and Dwayne (Wilma) Griffith of Belington, W.Va.; and five sisters, Edna (Dominick) Ricottilli of Belington, W.Va., Marie Snyder and companion Mick Schwirian of Philippi, W.Va., Catherine (Stanley) Hanelt of Bristol, Conn., Joann (Joseph) Toohey of Dorchester, Mass., and Linda (Robert) Knight of Beverly, W.Va.; and by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, from 2 p.m. until time of funeral services at 4 p.m. at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Cummings officiating. Interment will be held privately.
