Police charged Laverna M. Virden, 36, Middle Run Road, Chester, W.Va., with theft and possession of marijuana and Gregory A. Virden, 40, Third and Cornell streets, with complicity to theft Saturday after a call to Kmart in Calcutta.

According to reports, a loss prevention officer saw both of them place items into a gym bag, after which Mrs. Virden attempted to leave the store without paying for the items.

When an officer opened the gym bag, he reported finding a bag of suspected marijuana, a large number of bottles of pills and a large bundle of prescriptions written to Laverna Virden.

Jennifer L. Bailey, 25, Wilbert Avenue, was charged Saturday with theft after Dollar General personnel reported seeing her place four DVDs underneath her baby's blanket then try to leave the store without paying for them.
