GLENMOOR - Frederick John Morgan Jr., 88, of Kelly Avenue, died Friday morning, Dec. 11, 2009, at Nentwick Convalescent Center following a brief illness.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, March 14, 1921, he was the eldest son of the late Frederick J. and Rose Morgan.

He lived most of his life in the Glenmoor community and was a member of East Liverpool High School Class of 1939. He was a member of the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department and the Glenmoor American Legion Post No. 736, where he held most offices. He also was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 258.

During World War II, he served as a radio operator and gunner with the U.S. Army's 20th Armored Division, Lightening Brigade, in France and Germany and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

He was employed as a caster at the Hall China Co. and retired from the McIntosh-Hemphill Steel Foundry in Midland, Pa., where he also worked as a caster.

He enjoyed 58 years with his wife, Marguerite Holman Morgan, whom he married Feb. 24, 1946. She died Dec. 20, 2005.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Cynthia Woods of East Liverpool; a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth George and her husband, Dallas, of Franklin, Tenn.; a grandson, Patrick Robert Woods of Columbus; and a son-in-law, Michael Russak and his wife, Paula Mullineaux of Potomac, Md.

There are also two great-grandchildren, Clayton Robert George and Grace Elaine George, who will miss their "PopPop."

He is survived by a sister, Kathleen Wolfe of Glenmoor, and a brother, William Morgan of Tarrytown, N.Y.

Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Nell Morris of Springfield, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Elaine Rose Russak, died March 4, 2004, and a son-in-law, Robert Gary Woods, died Nov. 29, 1998. Two brothers, Edwin Morgan and Stanley Morgan, also preceded him in death.

The Rev. Dr. Vel Vais of the church is to conduct services at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association or the donor's own favorite charity.

Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center following the services.
