Charles R. Bayer Sr., 83

EAST LIVERPOOL - Charles R. Bayer, Sr., 83 of Rankin Street, East Liverpool, died on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Beaver, Pa., following an extended illness. He was born in East Liverpool on April 7, 1926, a son of the late James Arnold and Dora (Talbot) Bayer.

Living his entire life in this area, he worked in Operations for First Energy, Sammis Plant in Stratton for 13 years before his retirement in 1987. Mr. Bayer was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 374.

His first wife, Marybelle (Anderson) Bayer, died in 1968. His current wife, Betty (Tittle) Bayer, whom he married on Dec. 20,1974, survives him at home.

One son: Charles R. Bayer Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of East Liverpool; one stepson, John White and his wife, Ann, of San Antonio, Texas; one stepdaughter, Ann Casto and her husband, Alan, of Poland, Ohio; two brothers, Richard Bayer and his wife, Linda, of East Liverpool and David Bayer of Wellsville; one sister, Deloris Williams of Wellsville; five step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren survive him.

Besides his parents and first wife, two brothers, Jim and Phillip Bayer; and two sisters, Phyllis Gouldsberry and Betty Chrislip, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Sturm of the Calcutta Christian Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, from 5-8 p.m.
