EAST PALESTINE - James B. Cooper, 66, of Brushville Road, formerly of Zelienople, Pa., died Saturday morning, Dec. 5, 2009, at his home, following a four-year battle with cancer.
He was born April 19, 1943, in Beaver Falls, Pa., a son of the late Russell and Alice Hitchin Cooper.
A 1961 graduate of Freedom High School, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.
He was employed as a locomotive engineer, having retired from the Norfolk & Southern Railroad in Conway, Pa.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sharon Landsberger; four sons, J. Scott Cooper of Las Vegas, Nev., Shawn Cooper of Freedom, Pa., and Sheldon Cooper and Barry Cooper, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Connie Patterson of Monaca, Pa., and Donna Giles of Potter Twp., Pa.; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at funeral home, with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Benjamin Firestone Post 290 of Columbiana. Burial will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, Pa.
