WELLSVILLE — Wellsville started off fast and finished strong en route to a, 85-67, victory at home Friday night. The Tigers had four players scoring in double-digits with Michael Johnston leading the team with 22 points. The leading point scorer had a perfect day at the free-throw line sinking all eight of his attempts. Wellsville also had Jeremy Carter (18), DeShon Pullie (16) and Jalen DeSarro (16) leading the way for the Tigers in their victory over the Beavers. Pullie also was perfect at the charity-stripe going 5-for-5 on the evening. The Tigers as a team only missed three shots out of 24 attempts from the free-throw line. Carter proved to a threat under the boards as the Tiger grabbed 12 rebounds and teammate Jordan Dalrymple added nine rebounds to the mix. Wellsville jumped out to a 14-point lead over Beaver Local in their 29-point first quarter. It was Wellsville’s best quarter of the game. The second quarter was nearly a repeat of the first with Wellsville adding 23 points to their total while Beaver slightly improved from their 15-point quarter to an 18-point tally in the second. Nunzio Lombardozzi pitched in three assists, two steals and six rebounds for the Tigers. The second half was just about even as Wellsville put up 33-points while Beaver Local added 34 to their total but the onslaught of points in the first half was enough for a comfortable pace to end the game for the Tigers. Beaver Local was led by Travis Lynch who sank eight baskets and went 5-for-8 at the line to bring in 21 points for the Beavers. Zach Murray also added hit six shots and two three-pointer to bring his total to 18. The combo led the Beavers under the boards as Lynch pulled down seven rebounds while Murray added eight. Trevor Householder also was able to nab six boards as well. Mow Mow Thompson hit a three pointer as well and sank a shot to total five points while Nick Adkins also hit one from downtown, went five-for-six at the line and sank a basket to leave the game with eight points. Nick Miller was the assist-leader for the Beavers with four. In junior varsity action, the Beavers were able to top the Tigers, 63-56. Ryan Smith was the leading scorer for the Beavers with 19 points while Wellsville’s Nick Dalrymple totaled 18 points for the team. Wellsville rests for a week and then travels to Leetonia Friday while Beaver Local will travel to Salem to go against the Quakers the same evening.
