Donald W. Beatty

December 2, 2009

NEWPORT, Calif. - Donald W. Beatty, passed away on Nov. 28, 2009, from a heart attack. He was recuperating from open-heart surgery which was performed on Nov. 16.

Don was born in East Liverpool, where he grew up and went to high school. He played on the high school football team for the Potters and excelled in academics. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wittenberg University. He took great pride in the fact that he represented the first generation of his family to attend and graduate from college. From there he went on to get a Masters in Public Finance from Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania.

He met his wife Judith while attending Wittenberg. They were married in 1962. In 1970, he and Judith moved to Chicago where they raised their two children, Jonathan and Kimberly.

He spent his first 12 years in Chicago as the Executive Director of the Government Finance Officers Association. He was especially proud of the accomplishments and spoke often of many life long friendships he started while serving at GFOA. From there he went on to work for Northern Trust Bank for their Government Public Funds department. In 1987, he and Judith moved to Newport Beach, Calif., when Don took on a new role with Irving Trust Bank. They retired to Estero, Fla., in 2004 and were reunited with many friends from Chicago and made many new friendships in the Wild Cat Run community.

He was an avid golfer and really enjoyed the men's group he played with at his home club, Wild Cat Run. Don was dedicated to his service to God and regularly attended services at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.

His two children will remember him as a devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Avery, Emily, Tiger, Max and Eva.

He will always be remembered for his big smile he greeted friends and family with.

Services for Don will be held at noon on Friday, Dec. 4, at St. Andrews. Viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Pacific View Memorial Park.
