CHESTER - Phyllis I. Jones, 81, of Journeys End Dr. Chester, died on Wednesday at the Beaver Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born on March 27, 1928 in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Douglas J. and Mary Lorena Berkheimer.
A homemaker, Phyllis was a member of the Chester Church of the Nazarene, where she was some what famous for the many cookies that she made every year for the vacation bible school program.
Her husband, Eugene A. Jones, preceded her in death along with one son, Jimmy Jones; a grandson, Aaron Michael Jones; two sisters, Ardis Bumgarner and Sara Jones; and one brother, Douglas J. Vaughn.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick Jones and his wife, Billie and Charles Jones and his wife, Lisa, both of Chester; two daughters, Jacqueline Leisure and her husband, Delmas of Bridgeville, Del., and Ardis Russell and her husband, Frank of Chester; and one daughter-in-law, Althea Jones of Jonesboro, Tenn.
Surviving grandchildren include, Christine, Dennis, Dean, Mike, and Gary Leisure, Elizabeth Heeger, James A. Jones, Lisa Rose Jones, Jennifer Jones, Patricia Nally, Cathy Jones, Jonathon Jones, Christopher Jones, Marc Russell, Cynthia Timm, Pamela Russell, and Melissa and Eugene Jones.
Several great-grandchildren survive as well.
Pastor Steve Cummings of the Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, where the family will be present to receive friends Sunday afternoon and evening from noon to 2 and 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow the services on Monday at the Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chester Church of the Nazarene Memorial Fund at 205 Third St. Chester, WV. 26034.
