EAST LIVERPOOL- Ellie E. Mays, 61, of W. 9th Street, East Liverpool, died at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, following a brief illness. She was born in Madison, W.Va. on Sept. 20, 1948, a daughter of the late Ed Adkins and Jewell Carpenter.

Living most of her life in this area, Ellie worked as a CNA Supervisor at the Stone Pear Pavilion in Chester, W.Va. for 35 years, last working in February. She loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren and going to Mountaineer with her daughters.

Her husband, Richard W. Mays, whom she married on Nov. 17, 1988, survives her at home.

Three sons, David Lee Hudson of Marion, Ohio, James Michael Hudson, Sr. and his wife, Paula Sue of Bluefield, Va., and Richard Lee Mays and his wife, Stephanie of Tenn.; two daughters, Sandy Hudson Smith of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Diane Lynn Mays (Salisberry) of Wellsville, Ohio; two sisters, Frances White of East Liverpool, and Patricia Barfield of St. Louis, Mo.; ten grandchildren, Mindy Ann Reynolds, Rockie Lee Smith, Jr. and his wife, Miranda, Brittany Ellen Smith, Jonathan David Smith, James Michael Hudson, Jr., Jennifer Rose Strawn and her husband, Dale Steven Strawn, Jr., Shane Anthony Hudson, Steven Andrew Salisberry, Jr., Nick Anthony Salisberry and Savannah Skye Mays; as well as nine great-grandchildren survive her.

Besides her parents, one sister, Virginia Carpenter preceded her in death.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, with Brother Joseph Boyd of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ officiating.

Burial will follow in the United Presbyterian Cemetery in Calcutta.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009
