EAST LIVERPOOL - Geraldine M. Adkins, 89, of Michigan Avenue, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after taking ill suddenly.
Born Jan. 25, 1920, in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Henry Clay and Georgianna Pearson, she was a 1937 graduate of East Liverpool High School and a lifetime area resident.
She was a licensed nursing home administrator and owner of The East Liverpool Convalescent Centers-Adkins Care Centers Nos. 1 and 2 in East Liverpool for 49 years.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Lisbon, at one time she was a Sunday school teacher and primary teacher. She also served within the church as a past president of the Relief Society, the oldest women's organization in the United States.
She was active in the East Liverpool Parent-Teacher Organization and with the Beaver Local High School Band Boosters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death Feb. 16, 1991, by her husband, Toney Adkins, whom she married Aug. 17, 1941. Also preceding her was their son, Kenneth Richard Adkins on Nov. 17, 2008.
Surviving is a daughter, Janice Bowden, and her husband, Stanley, of East Liverpool.
There are seven grandchildren, Andrea Simons and her husband, Abram, of East Liverpool; Aaron Bowden and his wife, Mary, of Provo, Utah; Andrew Bowden; Kimberly Ann Adkins; Kaylee Anna Adkins; Kristopher A. Adkins; and Cody J. Adkins, all of East Liverpool.
There are four great-grandchildren, Westley Simons, Hayley Simons, Cami Simons and Zackery Richard Adkins.
A sister, Doris Marie Dunham of Lawrenceville, W.Va., survives.
Family members preceding her in death also includes three brothers, Lawrence Pearson, Robert Gale Pearson and Carl Roscoe Pearson; and two grandchildren, Kenneth Richard Adkins II and Lindsey Nicole Adkins.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool. Elders of the church will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at the church in Lisbon.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
