Columbiana County Sheriff for 11-7

POSTED: November 7, 2009

A deputy determined Thursday that a car found burned on Speidel Road, Hanoverton, on Wednesday had been stolen from Hanoverton Auto Mall Tuesday night. Deputies responded to Speidel Road at 10:49 a.m. Wednesday where they found the Mercury Cougar badly burned about a mile east of Rochester Road with the plates missing and the wheels removed. The vin plate was severely burned, leaving only a partial number. Using different number combinations, the Sheriff's Office tracked the car to a man in Lorain who sold it to Lake Shore Auto Wholesalers in Lorain. A representative of Hanoverton Auto Mall called and said the car belonged to the dealership. It had been purchased from Lake Shore, but the title hadn't been transferred.

A Salem woman on McCracken Road reported at 4:46 p.m. Wednesday that two pigs were on her lawn eating her bushes and flowers and wandered into her garage. When deputies arrived, the pigs were secured in a neighbor's fenced-in area. The deputies checked with other neighbors and located the owner of the pigs, who said he would retrieve them and take care of any damages they caused.
