Golden Bears forced to play waiting gameReview Staff Reports
The Bears are in the playoffs - for now.
The WVSSAC Week 10 football ratings were released Tuesday and Oak Glen held the No. 15 spot in Class AA. The top 16 teams advance to the postseason.
With the Bears (6-4) on a bye week, they must wait to see where they end up when the final ratings are released.
Currently Oak Glen has a 6.60 rating. They are followed by Roane County (6.22), Greenbrier West (5.90), Shady Spring (5.60), Scott (5.56), Tolsia (5.11), Tyler Consolidated (5.11) and Webster County (5.10).
The Bears playoff position appears to be solid with an examination of this week's games.
"We're just as happy as can be,"?Oak Glen coach Tony Filberto said. "We said all along that our goal was to be somewhere in the top 16. We're in it to win it."
Oak Glen has not reached the postseason since 1993.
Greenbrier West, Shady Spring and Webster County all are on bye weeks, meaning they cannot surpass Oak Glen in the ratings.
Roane County (5-4) plays at Ritchie County (2-7), Scott (4-5) hosts Class AAA Lincoln County (3-6), Tolsia (4-5) hosts Poca (2-7) and Tyler Consolidated (4-5) hosts Weir (1-8).
If all those teams win, it appears as though none would have enough points to overtake the Bears.
It also seems unlikely that Oak Glen could move up in the ratings.
Above Oak Glen is No. 14 Herbert Hoover?(6-4), No. 13 Pikeview (6-3) and No. 12 Chapmanville (6-3).
Pikeview has a rating of 7.67 and hosts Class A Midland Trail (0-9), while Chapmanville?(6-3), with a rating of 7.78, hosts Point Pleasant (6-3).
