COLUMBIANA COUNTY SHERIFF FOR 11-2
A deputy was called to Performance GMC, state Route 7, New Waterford, after a passing motorist saw a man slumped over the wheel of a vehicle in the parking lot at 8:28 a.m. Sunday. There was also a box in the vehicle, with the writing "This is not a bomb." The man was awake by the time the deputy arrived and said he was dropped off there to pick up his vehicle by a friend after attending a Halloween party. Instead of driving home, the man said he went to sleep. As for the box, the man said he went to the party dressed as the Unabomber and the box was a prop.
An official at the Rogers Group Home, state Route 7, Rogers, reported Friday evening three boys were missing from the facility. The official said the boys were gone when he went to pick them up at Beaver Local schools. The official called back Sunday to report the boys had returned.
A deputy was called to an apple-packing plant on Cunningham Road, Salem, at 5 p.m. Friday, where Bill Wilson accused Mike Norkus of illegal burning and called the Leetonia Fire Department. Wilson said one of Norkus' employees also tried to goad him into a fight. Norkus said it was Wilson who was trying to pick a fight, which is when he called the sheriff's office. Norkus said this is an ongoing dispute with Wilson.
Karen Brightwell, Petersburg Road, Petersburg, reported Saturday evening she was the victim of a hit-skip accident on Metz Road that caused her to drive into a field and become stuck. With the homeowner's permission, she left the vehicle there overnight, but on Sunday morning she discovered it was missing. Brightwell later learned the state highway patrol had the vehicle towed.
Larry Russell, state Route 45, Wellsville, called for a deputy at 11:28 p.m. Saturday after they heard a noise and discovered someone shot a BB pellet through their bedroom window.
