NNDS, sister entities scare up thousands of books

October 31, 2009
The Review

EAST LIVERPOOL The National Network of Digital Schools' second annual Monster Book Bash collected over 1700 books and raised more than $400 in donations for the Carnegie libraries of East Liverpool and Midland, Pa.

"All told, the contributions from NNDS, PA Cyber, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, Neel Elementary, Avanti Management Co., and Lincoln Interactive totaled 1764 books and something in the neighborhood of $400 in monetary donations," said Michael Varrati, special projects editor for NNDS and Book Bash organizer. "We more than quadrupled last year's efforts."

Varrati said the librarians at each location couldn't have been more pleased with the donations, which were split evenly among the two libraries.

"They each expressed their thanks and commented on how, in this time of economic turmoil when libraries have taken a huge hit, our contribution will mean a great deal to them in the coming year."

The Monster Book Bash is a month long fundraising initiative sponsored by NNDS to support local libraries and promote reading and literacy. In addition to collecting books, authors and illustrators from the Little Lincoln book series read to students at Neel Elementary and donated the book series to the school library.
