AREA BRIEFSOctober 29, 2009Guilford Lake receives grant LISBON - Guilford Lake State Park received a $30,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to be used for the boat ramp and dock lighting. The grant was through the ODNR's cooperative boating grant program. Cream Ridge closed today MADISON TWP.- Cream Ridge Road from state Route 7 to Glenn Road will be closed all day today, according to Madison Township Trustees. The road will close at 8 a.m. and reopen in the late afternoon so work can be done by the county. Volunteers for parade are needed. Hancock BOE sets meeting NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Board of Education will meet 7 p.m. Monday in the board room. Severstal, USW agree to cut 66 jobs WHEELING (AP) - The United Steelworkers says laid-off workers may be back on the job soon at Severstal Wheeling Inc.'s plant in Yorkville, Ohio, but details are still being worked out. Local 1223 President Jerry Conners said 300 workers met Tuesday to learn about an agreement the union has reached with the Russian-owned company. The agreement called for the permanent elimination of 66 jobs. All but one union member voted to accept the deal, reached after about three weeks of negotiations. Conners says one job being eliminated is his own. Production at Yorkville was halted in May. Conners says Severstal will announce when it will restart the operation and at what level of production |
