Common Pleas for 10-27

Wellsville man with numerous prior criminal convictions was sentenced to five years in prison on seven more charges during action last week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

Edwin L. Diequez Jr., 29, Main Street, was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge David Tobin on the following crimes that occurred in late 2008 and early 2009:

Attempting to burglarize the homes of Harold Bricker, Thompson Avenue, East Liverpool, and Bricker's neighbor, Alfred Tambellini, on Jan. 15, 2009.

Theft of a flat screen TV from his mother's home in Wellsville on Dec. 21, 2008. He reportedly sold the TV for drugs.

Burglarizing the home of Mike Myers, state Route 45, Wellsville, on Jan. 5, 2009, and breaking into his safe.

Breaking into the 7 & 30 Superette, state Route 7, Madison Township, on Dec. 25, 2008, and the home of Larry and Marcus Vincent, Opal Drive, Wellsville, on Dec. 30, 2008.

According to court records, Diequez had 19 prior criminal convictions. He received mandatory credit for 141 days already served in the County Jail.

In other court action, Christopher A. Reid, 30, Commerce Street, Wellsville, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8 after pleading guilty to breaking and entering, which was reduced from burglary as part of a plea deal reached with the prosecutor's office. Reid was accused of breaking into the Wellsville home of Tabitha Rockhold on April 21, 2009.

Julian Lopez, 27, Aetna Street, Salem, was found to be drug dependent and sentenced to four years probation/treatment for burglarizing the home of Nicole Stout, Ohio Avenue, Salem, on Feb. 2, 2009. Lopez was also charged with possessing criminal tools because he had a filet knife on him at the time.

Frank C. Daniels, 59, of Youngstown, was sentenced to four years' probation by Judge Tobin on a charge of complicity to theft. Daniels was accused of helping an accomplice try to sneak a computer and computer stand out of the Salem Walmart without paying for it. Court records show Daniels had four prior criminal convictions, all misdemeanors.
