HAMMONDSVILLE - Robert A. Lawrence, Sr. 72 of state Route 213, Hammondsville, died at his residence on Thursday, Oct, 1, 2009. He was born in Hammondsville on Feb. 27, 1937, a son of the late John E. and B. Pauline (Thomas) Lawrence.

Living his entire life in this area, Bob worked at the former Crucible Steel Mill, Sterling China Company and from 1966 to 1989 was owner of the Lawrence Service Station. He last worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a highway worker. Bob graduated from Irondale High School in 1955, was a member of the Stanton Ruritans, Brush Creek Grange and the Tri State Tour Riders Motorcycle Club.

His wife, Vivian "Judy" (Howell) Lawrence survives him at home. They were married on May 10, 1969.

One son: Robert A. Lawrence Jr. and his wife, Susan of Toronto; two daughters: Barbara Leanza and her husband Ed of Dover, Ohio, and Tricia Morris and her husband Mitch of Hammondsville; one sister: Joyce Grodhaus and her husband John of Hammondsville; as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.

Besides his parents, one brother: John T. Lawrence preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes with Pastor Dan Crowe of the Hammondsville Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will take place in Hammondsville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at the funeral home in Wellsville.

Following the services on Saturday, family and friends will gather at the Irondale Municipal Building for food and fellowship.
