ATHENS - Dr. Woodfin Grady Jones Jr., 89, of Athens, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009.
A native of Elberton, Ga., Dr. Jones was the son of the late Woodfin Grady Jones Sr. and Margaret "Maggie" Fleming Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie Perry Jones and sister, Juanita Jones Culbertson.
Dr. Jones attended Berry College and was a graduate of the University of Georgia College of Agriculture, as well as the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and earned the rank of Lt JG. During his years as a Family Practice physician, Dr. Jones practiced in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and Georgia and, during that time, delivered 756 babies. He was a member of AOA, American Osteopathic Association, GOMA, Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association, the Oconee County Senior Center, and the Happy Squares Dance Group.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jim Crouch of Athens, Ga.; daughter, Marlene Fleming of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; grandchildren, Ashley Ann Crouch of New London, Conn.; Lindsay Marie Crouch of College Station, Texas; and Jennifer Lynn Douglas of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and great-granddaughter, Alessa Douglas.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Sept. 28, at the University of Georgia Catholic Student Center with Father Tom Vigliotta officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Crestview Cemetery, Grove City, Pa. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
