Football fan arrested at Lisbon game
Review Staff ReportsLISBON -A spectator at Lisbon's junior varsity football game was arrested Saturday after running onto the field and grabbing a Lisbon player by the facemask and throwing him to the ground.
Anthony Italiano, 20, East Calla Road, New Middletown, was charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal trespass in Columbiana County Municipal Court. He pleaded innocent to the charges Monday, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Nov. 3.
According to village police, Italiano is the brother of a player for the Springfield Local jayvee team, Lisbon's opponent that day. About 9:45 a.m., Italiano's brother and Lisbon jayvee player Billy Myers were involved in a play that resulted in a scuffle between the two.
Before it could be broken up by referees, Italiano reportedly came out of the stands and onto the field, grabbed Myers by the facemask and dragged him to the ground. When confronted over his actions, police said, Italiano refused to leave the field and continued to argue with officials and Lisbon coaches and swear at them and the team.
One of the assistant jayvees coaches for Lisbon is also a police officer, and he summoned the officer on duty, who arrested Italiano and took him away in handcuffs.
