POSTED: September 3, 2009

NEWELL - The Northern Hancock County Rotary Club will participate in New Cumberland's first-ever Fall River Fest, scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27.

The rotary club will collect tickets during both days of the festival for the chance to win any of 18 prizes.

Each of the members will donate an item for the rotary club's booth at the festival, which till take place on River Avenue.

"We're going to have a bag in front of each prize, and we'll collect the tickets in those; if someone really wants something they can put all their tickets in one bag," Club Secretary Cindy Jones said.

The tickets will be drawn at approximately 5 p.m. on Sept. 27 near the end of the festival.

Participants to not have to be present at the drawing; the rotary club will call the winners to notify them of their prize.

Tickets for the drawing will be sold at the following prices: $1 per ticket or six tickets for $5, and $10 for an arm-length's amount of tickets.

The money the rotary club raises through ticket sales at their booth will go toward scholarships for Hancock County Schools graduates, given out each year.

The rotary club donates scholarships to three high school graduates so that they will have the means to further their educations.

This year's scholarship recipients were Megan Stiavison, Anthony Barrick and Jamie Govey.

The Fall River Fest will feature crafts, food, entertainment, and, on Sept. 26, fireworks. The festival is currently set to begin at 10 a.m. on both Sept. 26 and 27.

On Sept. 26, events will include a car cruise sponsored by the New Cumberland Candle Co. and a fishing derby.

Some of the bands lined up for the festival include Adrian Niles, Iron Skillet, and the Varmints.

For more information about the festival call city Clerk Tammy Jenkins at 304-564-3383.
