CHESTER - Larry R. Savors, 78, of Chester, died on Wednesday Aug. 5, 2009, at the Calcutta Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
A son of the late Lawrence and Estlene Vancamp Savors, he was born in 1930 in Chester.
Larry last worked as a crane man for five years at J&L Steel in Midland. He first worked at the former Crucible Steel from 1959 to 1982.
A member of the Grace Baptist Temple in East Liverpool, Larry enjoyed reading and working on his computer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict, and he graduated from the former Chester High School.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Savors.
Survivors include the love of his life that he married 35 years ago, Margaret Ann Savors, who resides at the Calcutta Health Care Center.
His son Michael Lynn Savors and his companion Sue Alley of East Liverpool also survive.
In addition two brothers, William E. Savors of East Liverpool, and Gerald L. Savors of Negley, and two grandchildren, Megan and Eric Savors survive as well.
Rev. Gaylord Cox of the church will conduct services on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester where the family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow the services on Saturday at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell. A gathering of family and friends will take place following the services on Saturday at the fellowship hall of the Grace Baptist Temple on Dresden Ave. in East Liverpool.
