WELLSVILLE - Donald R. Mahon, 80, of Campground Road, Wellsville, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at the East Liverpool City Hospital following an illness of two months.
Born in East Liverpool on Feb.23, 1929, he was the son of the late Donald D. Mahon and Alma Thomas Mahon Young. He had spent most of his lifetime in this area, with the exception of 10 years in Florida.
A 1947 graduate of East Liverpool High School, he and his wife had been members of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association's Olde Guard.
A brick mason by trade, Don had been associated with H.K. Porter/Swank Refractories, and had also worked at Crucible Steel until his retirement in 1981.
Don had been a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and thoroughly enjoyed his associations with fellow members of the Car Barn Heathens. He also had been a member of the Elks Lodge for over 50 years.
Preceding him in death on Nov. 29, 2008, was his wife, Evelyn J. Hutchison Mahon. They were married on June 17, 1950.
Survivors include two daughters, Denise English and her husband, Michael, of Riverview, Fla., and Stephanie Mahon of Lisbon, as well as one son, Greg Mahon and his wife, Velma, of East Liverpool.
There are six grandchildren, Tera Uliano, Michael P. English and his wife, Carolyn, Emily Mahon, Chase Mahon, Shawn Mahon, and Shannon Seigferth.
Seven great-grandchildren also survive, Brittany English, Michael T. English, Taylor Uliano, Aiden Mahon, Isabelle Mahon, Donnovan Mahon and Collin Seigferth.
One sister survives, Sondra Ruby and her husband, John, of Metairie, La.
Don was also preceded in death by his son, Donald R. Mahon II, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, JoAnne and Don Carpenter, and his step-father, James Young.
Friends may call Wednesday July 29, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home where Pastor Bruce Ballantine will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. that evening.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
