ALLIANCE - Lucille (Johnson) Waggoner celebrated her 90th birthday with a surprise party at the Portage Lake's home of her grandson, Jared Elmiger. Forty friends and relatives traveled from Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the surrounding area to share in her special day. Pontoon boat rides around Portage Lakes also were enjoyed. A special guest was Lucille's 88-year-old brother, Ralph Johnson, of Conway, Pa. His identical twin brother, Richard, who lives in Oceanside, Calif., was unable to attend.
Lucille was born June 25, 1919, in Wellsville, to Howard and Mary (Costello) Johnson. After her marriage to Dr. Charles R. Waggoner on June 15, 1944, she moved to East Liverpool, where she resided until shortly after Charles died, in 1985. They had two children; a son, Gary P. Waggoner, who lived in Woodstock, Ga., until his death in 1987, and daughter, Suzanne Waggoner, who currently resides in Marlboro Township.
After the loss of Charles and Gary, she moved to the Alliance area to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. In addition to Suzanne and grandson, Jared, she also enjoys spending time with grandson, Ryan Elmiger, who resides in Columbus, and granddaughters, Lindsay (Keith) Hartfelder and Jenna (Justin) Gray, who live in the Akron area.
In addition to her surprise party, Lucille was also, treated to a special birthday luncheon at The Spread Eagle Inn in Hanoverton, by close friend, Marjory Battershell.
