NEW CUMBERLAND - James "Jim" Luevano, 85, of New Cumberland passed away Friday, July 3, 2009.
He was a Native American Raramuri Indian, born March 17, 1924, in Roby, Texas, a son of the late Anthony and Paula Navaretti Luevano.
Jim worked for Pusateri Excavating, as an Operations Manger and he formerly worked for Sunset Volkswagen. He held memberships with The Paul Revere Masonic Lodge No. 162 and The Osiris Shriners of Colorado. He formed The Jimmy Luevano and his Orchestra Big Band and the Blue Notes, he was known for his excellent saxophone playing. Jim received an outstanding music award from the Raramuri Indian Tribe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Aiyana Luevano; three brothers, Vernon Luevano, Martin Luevano and Tony Luevano; and a sister, Francis Luevano.
He is survived by his wife, Lily Ann Booth Luevano at home; a daughter, Christine (Ty) Withers of Wyoming; two sons, James (Jennifer) Luevano II of Weirton and Jason M. (Kristi) Luevano of Australia; four grandchildren, Sarah, Seth, Chayton, and Kiana; two additional daughters from a previous marriage, Francis Luevano Hambleton and Veronica Luevano Gregory of Colorado; and a brother, Danny Luevano of California.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at The Newell Chapel of The Nixon Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009.
The interment will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery.
