WEST POINT - A Friday morning house fire along Johnson Road in the Glasgow area has been termed "a total loss."
According to John Barrett, assistant chief with the West Point Volunteer Fire Department, the home, owned by Kevin Kosko, was in the process of being remodeled. Barrett estimated the loss of the home and its contents at a value of $150,000.
West Point received the call at 8:45 a.m. Friday and when firefighters arrived, "it was fully involved," Barrett said.
No one was living in the home, but Barrett said "the homeowner was working in a garage (on the property) that was a ways away from the house." By the time the homeowner noticed the fire, Barrett said it already was out of control.
Although an official cause hasn't been determined, Barrett said early indications point to an electrical shortage.
A total of 30 firefighters from West Point, Highlandtown and Glenmoor battled the fire. Highlandtown also assisted with the use of its entire fleet and Glenmoor also provided a tanker.
The West Point VFD was back on station at 12:42 p.m.
