Robert E. Burris passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, after a brief illness.
Born in New Cumberland, W.Va., on May 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Homer and Grace Burris.
Mr. Burris served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked at several automobile repair businesses before opening his own business in the 1970s. He later worked for military contractors at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz.
Mr. Burris was a wonderful husband, father, pappy and friend to many. He loved spending time with his family, his pugs, golf, fishing and hanging out at the cabin with his best friends and writing poetry. He was well known for his talent of repairing and painting cars, which was a life long trade for him. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him-he always had a joke and was always there if you needed help.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Alice (Eddy) Burris; two daughters, Kathy (Mike) Ballard of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Karen (Mike) Wise of East Liverpool; three grandchildren, Sarah Moore of Arizona and Nicholas and Taylor Wise of East Liverpool; a sister, Mary Thayer, and brother, Paul Burris; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
No calling hours are planned. Instead, a Celebration of Life, at his request, will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at the Wellsville Alumni Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to make a contribution in Bob's memory send it to Hospice of the Valley, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, Ohio, 44514.
